Border West had a superb showing at their home Track and Field Invitational on Monday, winning both the boys’ and girls’ team competitions and turning in 39 personal best records on the day.  “Our kids love performing at home,” said Head Coach Brittany Erickson of the Buccaneers.  “Eight new record were set among the 39 personal records that were reached during this meet.”

Emily Kellen finally broke the 13 second barrier in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.59 and a first place finish.  She also established a new record in the high jump.  Both the girls’ and boys’ 200 meter dash records were broken by Kellen and Holden RinkeTaylin Schmidt rebounded after a bruised heel last week to break her own record and set a new record in the girls’ 100 meter hurdles, Karter Martinek has recently tried long jump as her fourth event and she broke the girls’ long jump record, and Claire Rinke broke her own record in the triple jump once again, while Andrew Franzese smashed his own shot put record.

The Hancock track and field teams competed at Ortonville on Thursday, May 2, and at Border West on Monday, May 6.  “The meet at Ortonville kept with the theme of the season so far, cold, wet and rainy,” stated Head Coach Kalee Nuest of the Owls.  “We had a few PRs, but not as many as we have achieved in other meets.  All the same, it was good to get the meet in.  Our meet at Border West proved to be better, even with the win.  Warm tempts definitely make a difference!  Lots of personal records and lots of blue ribbons!”
