Recent Fergus Falls Track & Field News

On Monday the Fergus Falls boys’ track and field team traveled the short distance to Wahpeton for a 5-team event, which the Otters won, scoring 269.5 points.  “This is called a last chance meet for our North Dakota neighbors to qualify for their state meet by a time or distance standard before their regional meet,” explained Fergus Falls Head Coach Derek Meyer.  “We are graciously accepted into the meet to be able to compete.  I think we added plenty of competition to the field today as we had plenty of personal bests and all-time bests throughout the day.”

Otter Girls Win at Wahpeton

By Craig Olson 05/14/2024, 12:45am CDT

Despite being shorthanded on Monday, the Fergus Falls girls’ track and field team finished first at the Wahpeton Invitational, scoring 235.5 points.  “Tonight was a busy night of activities for many of our athletes,” noted Fergus Falls Head Coach Niki Welde.  “There was an all-school orchestra concert, so that meant that many of our kids came to the meet hoping to get in as many events as possible before they had to leave.  I love the dedication of these student athletes who worked hard to take part in both activities.”

By Craig Olson 05/10/2024, 6:45am CDT

Estee Versteeg won the 800 (2:28.87) and Violet McConn was first in the 400 (1:00.89) to lead the Otter Girls Track and Field team to a 3rd place finish at the Section 8AA True Team meet on Thursday.  Pequot Lakes finished first, Detroit Lakes was second, the Otters third, Perham fourth and Park Rapids Area fifth in the nine-team field.  Versteeg also had a runner-up finish in the 1600 (5:16.80), and Cassie Wellman was second in the 3200 (11:44.23) and third in the 1600 (5:21.12).  The Otters also had second place finishes in the 4x100 relay and the 4x800 relay.

“The idea of the true team meet means bringing together every part of the team,” stated Fergus Falls Head Coach Niki Welde.  “There is a higher point score put towards the relays.  We went into this knowing we could challenge for the top 3 teams.  We battled in team points all day.  As coaches we could not have asked more from our girls than they gave today.  We had a few hiccups but matched those with standout moments.  Every one of our relays performed at their best.”
