Hancock Head Coach Kalee Nuest shared these observations from the first competition of the season for her Owls.

"I am really proud of the results from our first meet at Morris.  We were by far the smallest school and likely will be at most of our meets this season, but the beauty of track is that you can always run your own race!  We had one senior and one junior compete, and the rest were all 8th-10th graders.  We are young, but we are strong! 

Highlights for me were the number of personal records and the number of athletes trying a new event!  Our girls 4x100 relay team, all 8th graders, is just a few tenths off of the time that won our conference last year!  David Black really impressed me - he's never been in track, didn't really know what he was getting himself into, and ran a fantastic 800.  Oliver Rechtzigel, a sophomore, last ran in 8th grade and tried the 300 hurdles for the first time, taking 6th overall.  Our field events went so well - including an 8 foot PR for Cruise Millette in the shot put and a 4-inch PR in high jump for Preston Kisgen.

I am most proud of senior, Noah Luthi, who joined the team this year.  His first race, the 110 hurdles, did not go as planned.  Despite falling and even breaking his wrist, he finished the race, kept an excellent attitude, and will finish out the season as moral support for his teammates."
