“Warm weather and melted snow brought everyone's competitive spirits up,” stated Fergus Falls Head Coach Niki Welde.  “Tonight was the 2nd of 3 meets this week.  3 meets in a week is an anomaly.  Coming off a snow event we decided to put our odds on a guaranteed indoor meet on Monday.  We moved our home meet to later in the week not knowing if it would happen for sure based on snow melt.  Saturday brings our indoor conference meet.  Tonight we were able to have our kids sit back and focus on different events.  It gave us lots of opportunities to try out new options.”

Winning events for the Otters were:
Estee Versteeg in the 1600 with a season PR.
Sarah Grotberg in the 3200 with a season best
Brook Zierden in the Discus she also placed second in the shot put with a season best.
Mayah Fear had an outstanding best, winning the triple jump.

“Many of our events cross over from an indoor season,” noted Coach Welde. “These athletes had an opportunity to better their performances at this first outdoor meet.”

Sprinter Bella Rude pulled a 7th place season best in the 200; 7th grader Carsyn Lill stood out in 4th with a huge season best in the 800; Olivia Swanson joined her, scoring in the 800 with another season best; Senior Sarah Grotberg not only got a season best in the 3200, but a 3rd place finish in the 1600.

“This Otter team is showing strength in all areas,” concluded Welde.  “Their hard work is already paying off.”

The Hillcrest Lutheran Academy Comets competed in the Harrington Early Bird Track and Field Invite on a beautiful Thursday afternoon in Fergus Falls.

In their first outdoor meet the girls 4x800 team broke the school record by 6 seconds (10:22.57) Relay team members were Katie Holzner, Emme Berge, Elsa Retzlaff and Kaia Fiskness.  Those that also scored points for the Comets were Gabe Swedenberg, 2nd in both the 100 (11.95) & 200 (24.55); Matthew Knutson, 5th in the high Jump and 3rd in the 4X400 (3:49.47) with teammates Gabe Swedenberg, Maverick Peterson and Drew Fischer; Ruby Peterson 2nd in the 200 and 2nd in the 4x400 with Elsa Retzlaff, Emme Berge & Kaia Fiskness; Katie Holzner was 3rd in the 3200; Kaia Fiskness 1st in 400 (1:02.39); Emme Berge 4th in 400 (1:07.75);  and Elsa Retzlaff 5th in the 800.
