Ashby-Brandon-Evansville won the Border West girls’ track and field invitational on Monday with 143 points and the host Buccaneers were second with 134.  The Bucs were first in the boys’ meet with 201 points and Hancock took runner-up honors with 105 points.

“Our athletes have improved vastly within the last week,” said Border West Head Coach Brittany Erickson. “Whenever we go to a track meet in South Dakota, I feel like we get our butts kicked a lot because we see some pretty phenomenal athletes that are ahead of us season-wise since they start earlier.  Going against great competition usually results in better times and throws and we saw that.  Our overall team scores reflect that.”

Erickson continued, “At our home meet on Monday, we had 32 seasonal records. Our jumpers and throwers dominated across the board, our relay teams vastly improved, and runners ran fast in front of a home crowd. It's awesome to see athletes work on parts of their race like the starting blocks or relays and see the times get faster and faster or their footwork in throwing and jumping and see the jumps and throws be farther and farther.  I cannot be more proud of our effort and willingness to compete in events outside their comfort zone to fill in for a teammate and score points for the team when the need arises.  Special thanks to the parents, teachers, and community members who worked the meet to make it successful. We appreciate your help so we can host them.”

Hillcrest Head Coach Allen Aase said, “It was a beautiful night in Wheaton and a great opportunity to compete against schools closer to our size.  Our top performers were Judit Moller and Marie-Elise Oy on the girls' team and Gabe Swedenburg and Matthew Knutson for the boys’.”
