The Henning Hornets jumped out to a 12-0 lead in Battle Lake on Tuesday night and went on to defeat the Battlers 53-39 after holding a 29-13 halftime lead.  Henning took excellent care of the ball with only 8 turnovers and held a 40-30 edge on the boards.  The Hornets led throughout the game and their biggest lead was 18 points.

“We are very proud of the effort from our guys tonight and the energy from our bench,” said Henning Head Coach Randy Misegades. “We have not played for two weeks and it looked like it on the offensive end of the floor. We struggled to make shots, but our defensive effort and rebounding carried us through.”

Mason Hammer led Henning with 19 points, 6 assists, 3 blocked shots and 7 rebounds.  Kale Misegades (12 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists) and Tyson Misegades (10 points, 3 assists) were also in double figures.  Lane Dilly had a team high 12 rebounds, to go along with 6 points.

“We were able to jump out to a 12-0 lead and held a nice margin for the rest of the game,” reported Coach Misegades.  “Owen Buehler got hot midway through the 2nd half to tighten things up a bit, but each time our guys responded. We have many things we can improve upon, but we are certainly happy with the win. Battle Lake is extremely athletic and a tough matchup.”

Buehler led Battle Lake with 23 points and 10 rebounds, registering a double-double.  Buehler made six 3’s in the contest.  Bradyn Roisum had 7 points and Mason Dalluge dished out 4 assists.  Jack Mekalson, who has been averaging 21 points per game for the Battlers, was held to just 2 points.

Henning (7-0) plays at Wadena-Deer Creek on Thursday and entertain Brandon-Evansville on Saturday.

Battle Lake (5-2) will host Underwood on Thursday night.
