The Hillcrest boys’ basketball team went up 49-33 at the half, extended their lead to twenty points in the second half, and then saw Mahnomen-Waubun come storming back to cut the lead to four points at 53-49 with 3 minutes remaining in the game. They pulled to within one at 66-65 with just over a minute to go, but the Comets held on for a 72-69 victory on Monday night.
The Underwood Rockets built a 42-19 halftime lead on Monday night and went on to record a 72-38 win over Sebeka in non-conference boys’ basketball action. “We brought much more intensity and pressure tonight than we have in our last few games, and it carried over to the offensive side tonight, knocking down 14 threes,” noted Head Coach Kellen Shebeck of Underwood. “We rebounded very well, and we need to continue to do that every night. Very proud of the guys and their adjustments they made tonight!”
Hancock played Morris in a high school boys’ basketball contest on Saturday at UM-Morris with the Tigers prevailing, 55-50. Hancock led 32-29 at the half, but Morris outscored the Owls 26-18 over the final 18 minutes. Morris shot 48% (23-48) from the field and Hancock was 23-for-47 (48%).
