The Hillcrest boys’ basketball team took care of business on Tuesday night as they ran away from Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal for a 74-39 victory on the Comets home floor.  “Our first 14 minutes might have been the best basketball we played together thus far,” commented Head Coach Ryan Garvin of Hillcrest.

“We had six guys go for 5 or 6 points, with two other guys getting in the scoring column in the first half,” continued Garvin.  “We moved the ball well and finally had a game where we knocked down shots, 7-of-12 from the 3-point line and 10-of-13 in the paint.  We also did a pretty good job of ensuring NCE/UH went one and out on their possessions.  Our rebounding (49-21) was pretty good, even with Justin Petersen who was unavailable due to travel.”

Noah Brumfield led the Comets with a double-double (17 points, 10 rebounds).  Erik Bjorndahl netted 11, Preston Berg ended up with 10 points and 7 rebounds, and Matthew Knutson had 6 points, 7 rebounds and at least 7 deflections.  “I though his energy off the bench was exactly what we’re looking for from our first substitution,” added Coach Garvin.

Luke Christensen had 8 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists, while Ethan Swedberg and Gabe Swedenburg each had 7 boards.

“It was great to give a lot of guys’ reps tonight,” said Garvin.  “Cohen Draxten played well for us off the bench, scoring 6 in the second half.  We need to continue to handle the ball better in the half court and make some better decisions in our half-court offense, but it’s great to finally see who we are after 15 days off.”

Hillcrest (5-0) will travel to play Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg on Thursday night.
