Evink and VerSteeg Record Double-Doubles as Owls Defeat Eagles

Hancock led 32-19 at the half and went on to post a 61-40 win over New York Mills in a high school boys’ basketball game on Friday night in Hancock.  The Owls hit the boards hard, pulling down 45 rebounds, led by Chase Evink with 12 and Hudson VerSteeg with 11.  Both players had double-doubles as VerSteeg led the Owls with 22 points and Evink added 15.

Jackson Koehl had a strong all-around game with 10 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.  Jared Koehl had 8 rebounds and led the team with 4 seals.  Brayden Kisgen had a team high 4 assists.  Hancock made 45% (22-49) of their shots from the floor.

New York Mills shot just 27.4% (14-51) from the field and had 32 rebounds.  Sam Kopveiler led the Eagles with 10 points and Hunter Holtti had 9.

Hancock (1-1) will host Battle Lake on Tuesday night.

New York Mills (0-4) will play at Sebeka on Monday night.
