The 2021-22 boys’ basketball season was a memorable one for the Hillcrest Comets.  They were 21-7, shared the Little Eight Conference crown with an 11-1 mark and saw Sam Brumfield score 1,000 career points and break the single game scoring record.  Brumfield is now at Northern State in Aberdeen and the Comets also lost Caden Fischer, Yuchan Ha and Zayne Weinrich off that successful team, creating some holes and along with the holes, some opportunities.

Returning letter winners are senior Justin Peterson (Wing), and juniors Noah Brumfield (Wing), Luke Christensen (Post), Matthew Knutson (Post) and Gabe Swedenburg (Guard).  Senior Erik Bjorndahl (G) and sophomore Preston Berge (Wing) will also be looking for varsity court time.

“We have a lot of length that should make us a force on the boards and down low,” stated fourth-year head coach Ryan Garvin.  “Outside of our starters we have a lot of players new to the varsity level.”

Garvin will be assisted by Donavan Rogness, Andrew Stender and Sam Nash.  He sees Border West and Hancock as the top teams in the Little Eight Conference, while BBE, Henning and KMS are his top picks in Section 6A.
