The top seeded team in the North half of Section 6A, the Underwood Rockets, hosted Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in a girls’ basketball playoff game on Thursday night with the Rockets coming out on top, 63-45.

Kallyn Grove led the Rockets with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals.  Mo Bugbee scored 13 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and had 5 steals, and Liz Lukken was also in double digits with 11.  Mia Blaskowski and Ezrah Baker each contributed 8 points.

“Kallyn really had an efficient game for us, hitting 9 of 11 shots,” said Underwood Head Coach Brian Hovland.  “I thought defensively we played really well.  Offensively, we need to do a better job of taking care of the ball in the half court and getting our best look.  At times we did that, at times we struggled.  We will need to do a much better job on Saturday.”

Madi Ballweg (15 points, 3 assists, 3 steals) and Ella Knutson (12 points, 5 rebounds) led Hillcrest, with Ruby Peterson (6 points, 3 steals) and Regan Wiertzema (4 points, 6 rebounds) also contributing.

“The girls played so hard tonight,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Hannah Clark.  “There’s no question in my mind that they left it all on the court.  I’m proud of how these girls competed the entire game.  It’s always tough when the season comes to an end, but these girls have a lot to be proud of.  We are sure going to miss our four seniors, Alivia Holmquist, Caitlyn Maggert, Regan Wiertzema, and Natalie Zwiers.  They gave so much to the Comet girls’ basketball program and have been great leaders for our underclassmen.”

Underwood (21-3) will face Breckenridge in a Section 6A Quarterfinal round game at 1:00pm Saturday at the Perham High School.

For Hillcrest, their season ends with a final record of 11 wins and 15 losses.
