Sam Brumfield led four Hillcrest players in double figures, scoring 35 points as the Comets recorded a convincing 87-48 win over Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley on Thursday night in Fergus Falls. Three other Comets, Zayne Weinrich, Noah Brumfield and Justin Petersen scored 11 points each. Luke Christensen finished with 8 points and 6 boards. Hillcrest led 46-26 at the half.
“After a really flat first two minutes, our boys turned up the defensive pressure and played a pretty solid game start to finish,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Ryan Garvin. “We contained the ball much better and finished possessions with a lot more defensive intensity. I also really appreciated our offensive rebounding effort tonight. It got us a lot of good second chance opportunities. Caden Fischer and Matthew Knutson both really do that well for us.”
Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley was led by Cole Gilsdorf with 30 points. Gilsdorf hit seven 3-pointers in the game.
“Gilsdorf had a really nice game for CGB,” said Coach Garvin. “He does a nice job handling the ball and has really great range. Sam Brumfield led us again with 35 points and also had 4 rebounds and 4 steals. Justin Petersen and Noah Brumfield both had 7 rebounds.
Hillcrest (19-6) will finish their regular season schedule with a Little Eight Conference game at Underwood on Friday night. A win by the Comets will give them a share of the conference title with the Ashby Arrows.
Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley will end their season in Wheaton on Friday night.
