The Hillcrest boys’ basketball team started out shooting the ball very well from the field, making 17-of-19 first half field goal attempts and 9-of-14 from 3-point range as they built a 53-22 halftime lead on the way to a convincing 78-38 win over Lake Park-Audubon.

Sam Brumfield led the Comets with 41 points, including five 3’s.  Justin Peterson added 17 and Luke Christensen had a dozen on four 3’s.

“It was great to see Luke finally look confident in his stroke as he knocked down four 3’s in the first half,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Ryan Garvin.  “Justin and Sam both had it going as well.  I thought our rebounding looked a lot better and our unofficial stats have us out-rebounding LPA 34-18.  Matthew Knutson was all over the offensive glass tonight, collecting 4 and a tipping a few others.  We looked a bit better in our few transition opportunities and passed the ball a bit better on the run.  We’ll have to keep working on our defensive containment if we want to be great entering playoff time.”

Hillcrest (18-6) will host CGB on Thursday and play at Underwood on Friday to close out their regular season schedule.
