The Hillcrest girls’ basketball team featured a balanced attack on Monday night as they opened the post season with a 62-48 home court victory over Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal.  Madi Ballweg nailed a 3-pointer at the buzzer to end the first half with the Comets leading 28-26.  She went on to lead HLA with 19 points, while adding 5 rebounds and 6 assists.

“Madi had another nice night for us,” commented Hillcrest Head Coach Hannah Clark.  “She has become so consistent for us on offense.  Ruby Peterson (17 points, 4 steals) also played a solid game and Madi Foss (7 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals) and Ella Knutson (8 points, 10 rebounds, 4 steals) did a great job on the boards.”

Regan Wiertzema scored 8 points and pulled down 6 rebounds and Alivia Holmquist hit a 3-pointer for her only points of the night.  Hillcrest made 10 3-pointers in the game.

“We struggled with their full court press and it really prevented us from getting into the flow of things, offensively,” stated Coach Clark.  We did a much better job taking care of the ball in the second half.”

The Titans were led by 14 points from Izzy KlemetsonAdi Klemetson and Jerran Madson scored 10 points each.

“It was a fun night getting one last chance to play in front of our home crowd,” exclaimed Clark.  “We didn’t play as clean as we wanted to, but we were able to come away with the W.”

The Comets will face Underwood, the number one seed in the North half of Section 6A, at 7:00pm Thursday on the Rockets home floor.
