Both teams hit the floor a little depleted on Tuesday night as the Ashby Arrows boys’ basketball team paid a visit to Fergus Falls to face Hillcrest Lutheran Academy.  Ashby was missing Hunter Norby and Carson Spangler, and Hillcrest was without Yuchan Ha and Caden Fischer.  Hillcrest started hot from the 3-point line, making7-of-13 in the first half as they built a 31-16 lead.  The Comets went on to win the battle, 62-44.

Noah Brumfield only had 5 points, but he had 11 rebounds and 4 assists.  Zayne Weinrich had 9 points on three 3’s in the first half and also grabbed 5 boards.  Sam Brumfield paced the Comets once again with 20 points and Justin Peterson had 17 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists.

“I thought we were confidently patient tonight on the offensive end of the floor,” stated Hillcrest Head Coach Ryan Garvin. “We didn't get great shots in our first two possessions, but it was all about our posture tonight. We committed to being patient. It's how we play the best, the most composed. I thought our boys did an admirable job on Torin Olson and Jacob Cook. We knew those boys would play well and get points somehow, but we had to make it difficult for them; we had to make them work for everything they got.”

Olson and Cook led the Arrows with 19 and 18 points, respectively.  Matson Hoff added 5 and Brodie Ecker contributed 2 points.  Ashby shot just 26% (14-53) from the field.

“We had a stretch in the latter part of the first half where we had several empty trips and the Comets answered with three-point baskets,” noted Ashby Head Coach John Holsten.  “It’s a shot maker’s game and their ability to hit 3’s put us in a deficit too large to overcome.”

The loss drops the Arrows record to 14-2 on the season and 6-1 in the Little Eight Conference.  They travel to Underwood for another conference game on Friday.

Hillcrest (13-5, 8-1 LEC) is now even with Ashby in the conference as each team has just one loss with the two teams splitting their season series.  The Comets will play at Parkers Prairie on Friday.
