The Hillcrest boys’ basketball team picked up an overtime win at Brandon-Evansville on Thursday night, beating the Chargers by the score of 59-52.

“Both teams slugged it out tonight,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Ryan Garvin.  “It wasn’t pretty, but we did just enough to come away with a win.  Despite popular opinion, we are not trying to set any records having anything to do with overtime games!  But seriously, if we’re in a close one, I think these boys have built up some good muscle memory to have great confidence in any close game going forward.  We were a bit flat all night on offense and credit goes to Coach Hintermeister for the way they planned for us and how their boys executed against us, but I loved our patience on defense.  We didn’t always take great shots, but we made them play defense for good stretches.”

Sam Brumfield finished with 22 points, scoring 19 of those in the second half and overtime.  “I loved his patience and working to get others involved tonight,” stated Garvin.  “He also finished with 3 steals and 3 assists.”

Justin Peterson had 17 points, included three 3-pointers.  He also snagged 7 rebounds and dished out a pair of assists.  To round out the scoring, Luke Christensen had 6, Caden Fischer 5, Yuchan Ha and Matthew Knutson 4 each.

“We had a look at the end of regulation and missed it, so it went to overtime tied at 46,” reported B-E Head Coach Trent Hintermeister.  “We had good looks in overtime and missed them.  Hillcrest is a good team.”

Hillcrest (11-3, 6-1 LEC) will host Breckenridge on Monday night.

Brandon-Evansville (6-8, 1-5 LEC) has a home game with Henning at 4:00pm Tuesday.
