Hillcrest Lutheran Academy posted a 42-39 Little Eight Conference girls’ basketball victory over the Rothsay Tigers on Thursday night in a game that was tight throughout and ended dramatically.

“What a great, hard fought game tonight between both teams,” commented Hillcrest Head Coach Hannah Clark. “Ruby Peterson swished a half-court shot at the buzzer to win the game. What a fun way to end the night!”

Madi Ballweg (17 points, 5 rebounds) and Alivia Holmquist (11 points, 8 rebounds) were both in double figures for the lady Comets.  Regan Wiertzema added 6 points and 6 rebounds, Peterson had 5 points and 3 steals and Madi Foss finished with 3 points, a game high 13 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals.

“Rothsay did a great job making us uncomfortable on offense and we were unable to get into any sort of rhythm the entire game,” noted Clark. “But credit to our girls, on a night where we couldn’t get the ball to go through the hoop, our girls dug deep and found a way to win. Madison Foss played a great all-around game for us.”

Kenadi Carlsrud led Rothsay with 16 points and Savannah Sullivan added 10.

"I was so proud of our girls tonight," said Rothsay Head Coach Anita Heier. "They played hard from start to finish and continue to get better every game."

Hillcrest (6-7, 4-4 LEC) will travel to Graceville for a game against CGB on Monday night.

Rothsay (2-12) has a home game against Parkers Prairie on Friday night.
