Sam Brumfield scored 21 points, dished out 7 assists, came up with 5 steals and applied intense ball pressure defensively to lead the Hillcrest boys’ basketball team to a 79-73 win over Legacy Christian Academy at the Lions Holiday Classic in Andover on Thursday.

The Comets were balanced in scoring with Noah Brumfield finishing with 18 points, Luke Christensen with 14, and Yuchan Ha and Caden Fischer with 10 points each.

“We knew that Aiden Johnson (35 points, 15 rebounds) would somehow get his points, but we wanted to limit their second chance opportunities and we did that fairly well,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Ryan Garvin.  “We had a couple of stretches of being up double digits, but their 3-point shooters hit some timely three’s, so we had to hold them off with stops and free throws in the last few minutes.”

Hillcrest forced 20 turnovers and had under ten turnovers themselves, a season low.

Sam Brumfield and Yuchan Ha were named to the All-Tournament Team and Sam was named Tournament MVP.

Hillcrest (4-2) will host Rothsay on Tuesday and Parkers Prairie on Thursday in a pair of Little Eight Conference contests.
