The Underwood girls’ basketball team led 38-23 at halftime Monday night and went on to record a 72-64 win over the Perham Yellowjackets.

The Rockets were led by Liz Lukken (21 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals), Mo Bugbee (18 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists) and Kallyn Grove (15 points, 8 rebounds).  Alayna Evavold added 6 points and 4 rebounds, while Ezrah Baker contributed 5 points, 4 assists and 3 steals.

“This was a battle the whole game,” said Underwood Head Coach Brian Hovland. “Perham is a very good team that gives you fits trying to defend.  I thought we did a great job in the first half, but they made some changes to their offensive sets in the second half and we struggled to defend their 3-point shooters.  Willow Thiel is a beast and it took a total team effort of Evavold, Zoey Swanson and Mia Blaskowski rotating in to defend her.  Offensively, we played really well in the first half.  The second half we kind of ran out of gas, but we were able to make just enough plays.”

Underwood (3-0) will host Brandon-Evansville in a Little Eight Conference matchup on Friday.
