Battle Lake swept Hillcrest in a Little Eight Conference volleyball match on Thursday, winning 25-14, 25-13, 25-16.

“I thought the Battlers played with confidence tonight,” said Battle Lake Head Coach Jenny Roisum.  “We finally controlled the tempo and played consistent volleyball from one set to the next.  Hillcrest played great defense and we had some of our longest rallies tonight.  The girls passed the ball well, which allowed Grace Van Erp to put the ball away. The night was capped off by announcing that the Battle Lake and Hillcrest fans raised over $1400 for the Foss family.  Thank you everyone for coming out to support the volleyball teams and the Foss family.  It was greatly appreciated and made the night extra special.”

VanErp finished with 13 kills, 3 blocks and 4 aces.  Ady Tysdal added 10 kills, while Sophie Akerman dished out 12 assists.

“It was a rough night for the Comets,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Debi Foss.  “We just didn’t play like ourselves.  A lot of “early season” type mistakes and miscommunications.  I blamed our slow start on the fact we hadn’t had a game for a while and just haven’t played enough games yet this season.  But we just couldn’t get anything going.  The Battlers played well against us and overall just played more confidently.  We’ll have to make some quick adjustments going into our heavy game schedule next week with four matches.”

The Comets were led by Madi Foss (7 digs, 6 set assists, 4 kills), Henrietta Ruud (6 set assists, 7 digs), Emily Adams (3 kills, 4 digs), Hope Adams (2 kills, 2 block kills), Madison Ballweg (12 digs), Abby Heikes (1 kill, 2 digs), Natalie Zwiers (1 kill, 1 block kill) and Anna Brumfield (3 digs, 3 kills, 2 block kills).

“I want to say a special THANK YOU to the Battle Lake and Hillcrest fans for showing so much love to our family in the ”pass the bucket” challenge,” added Coach Foss.  “My husband, Kevin, continues his fight against cancer every day.  We are so humbled by the kindness and generosity to our family from both communities.  Thank you all so much!!”
