Hillcrest held a 21-18 halftime lead over Ashby in a Little Eight Conference boys basketball game on Thursday night at the Hillcrest Student Activities Center in Fergus Falls.  The Arrows turned up the defensive intensity in the second half, holding the Comets to just 12 points over the final 18 minutes to take a 53-33 victory.

Scoring leaders for the Arrows were Scott Johnson who led all scorers with 22 points, and Hunter Norby with 10.  Rebound leaders were Christian Norby and Jaden Norby with 13 and 12, respectively.  Dakota Ecker and Noah Johnson each added three point baskets at key moments in the game.

"We got back in the game in the first half by improving our transition defense," said Ashby Head Coach John Holsten.  "We shot the ball much better in the second half.  Our defensive intensity was pretty good for the entire game."

The Arrows are now 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the Little Eight Conference.  They have two home games next week, taking on the Henning Hornets on Tuesday and finishing their pre-Christmas schedule with a conference matchup against the Rothsay Tigers on Thursday.

"We played a very good defense first half against the Arrows," noted Hillcrest Head Coach Gregg Preston.  "Our footwork, communication and help defense was excellent.  The Arrows dominated almost every aspect of play the second half.  Scott Johnson and the Norby's shot the ball extremely well the second half.  Thomas Zwiers played another very good game, leading us in scoring and rebounding the ball well."

The two games that were schedule for next week for the Comets have been rescheduled.  Their game with Pelican Rapids, which was scheduled for Tuesday, will now be played on Tuesday, January 22, and the game scheduled for Thursday with Underwood has been moved to Thursday, January 24 as part of a girl/boy double header at Hillcrest.
