The Hillcrest baseball team saw its season come to an end Tuesday as the hosting Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Thunder defeated the Comets 17-2 in the Section 6A playoffs.

"It wasn't our best performance tonight, but I am proud of what these young men have accomplished this season," Comets head coach Zach Stich said. "Hats off to the Thunder. They are a smart, tough squad and well-coached."

The Thunder scored three runs in the first and second inning, five more in the third and six in the fourth. The Comets prevented the shutout in the top of the fifth as Isaac Iverson delivered a two-run single. Long Prairie would stop the late threat to get the win.

Nate Bermel took the loss for the Comets pitching one inning. Luke McGuire, Trey Swedenburg and Iverson would also make appearances on the mound in the game.

Iverson led the Comets at the plate going 1-3 with two RBI, while Swedenburg and Ethan Swedberg each had a hit in the game.
