Border West Defeats Hillcrest Twice in Baseball Double Header

In a wet and windy doubleheader, the hosting Hillcrest Comets baseball team saw a couple of bad innings give the advantage to the Border West Buccaneers Friday as the visitor took both games of a Little Eight Conference doubleheader 15-2 and 15-0.

"Despite the scores, we did a lot of things very well today," Comets head coach Zach Stich said. "Without practicing outside all week, we were able to fix several of our mistakes from the prior week and put several runners on base."

 

Kevin Casper got the win for the Buccaneers in the first game going the distance and striking out six. Nate Bermel took the loss for the Comets pitching four innings and fanning three, while Will Heggland pitched three innings of relief striking out two.

Leading Hillcrest hitters were Bermel as he went 2-for-3 with a run scored, While Heggland and Trey Swedenberg each had an RBI in the game.

In the nightcap, Brayden Andrews got the win for Border West pitching five innings and striking out six. Luke McGuire took the loss pitching three innings and striking out two, while Drake Veldhouse finished the game throwing an inning and striking out one.

Bermel and Joe Torgerson led the Comets at the plate each going 1-for-2.

The Comets will look to bounce back as they travel to take on Browerville-Eagle Valley Monday at 4:30 p.m.
