The West Central Area track and field teams are returning several letter winners from a successful team last spring which includes captains Ben Nyreen (state qualifier), Alexa Blume, Taylor Bennett, Sydney Ulrich, Maci Robinson, Terina Blasyk and Kiera Gehrke.  The 2023 Knights showed improvement throughout the season with numerous personal records set and a couple of school records being flirted with.  “They were a hard working group that pushed each other in practice from day one,” said Head Coach Dave Schleicher, now in his third season.

Other returning letter winners are Madelyn Westrom, Whitney Westrom, Grant Lindquist, Olivia Lindquist, Adam Merkins, Callie Glawe, Carter Dallenbach and Teagan Winter.

“Our team will be led by this strong group of seniors,” said Coach Schleicher.  “From year to year our numbers have grown steadily.  Last season our boys’ squad was heavy with talented upperclassmen and this season we will have a large girls” squad that should be fun to watch.”

The Knights return their entire 4x100 and 4x200 girls’ relay teams, along with jumpers Sydney Ulrich, Jayden Styba and Terina Blasyk, who are poised for a run at state.

“Coach Matt Nemec has another talented group of throwers, returning Ben Nyreen and Maci Robinson,” added Schleicher.  “Taylor Bennett and Alexa Blume will challenge in the distance races for sure.  We have a talented group of 7th and 8th graders, along with some new faces in the High School ranks that will be fun to develop.  There is a lot of young talent on this team.”

In addition to Coach Nemec, Schleicher will be assisted by Aaron Beyer and Kaylyn Ulrich.
