Cadyn Dahl led four Ada-Borup/West players in double figures with 27 points on Saturday afternoon in Perham as the Cougars advanced to the Section 6A semifinals by eliminating Hillcrest Lutheran Academy, 82-62 at the Hive.  Cameron Spaeth added 17 points, Austin McCraven supplies 13 points and Mason Larson chipped in with 10.

“We talked about the need to get back in defensive transition because Ada converts live ball turnovers and rebounds into offensive transition opportunities at a high level, unfortunately, we didn't do that well,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Ryan Garvin. “And our final pre-game point on the defensive end was making sure we rebounded the ball and didn't give Ada second chance points. Unfortunately, we didn't do that well either. We didn't play cohesively or consistently on the offensive end and had far too many turnovers for a playoff basketball game. Credit goes to Ada-Borup and Coach McCraven for making life difficult for us on both ends. This resulted in a 43-24 halftime deficit.”

Noah Brumfield led the Comets with 21 points and Luke Christensen had 14.  Leo Nordick scored 9 points, all in the second half and Gabe Swedenburg turned in a strong performance, finishing with 8 points.

“In the second half, Leo Nordick did some nice things for us off the bench grabbing some rebounds, setting some screens and finishing at the rim for us,” noted Coach Garvin. “Although we made some baskets, we couldn't get enough stops to stem the tide. Ada could afford to simply trade baskets and then finished the game going 15-19 from the free throw line.”

Ada-Borup/West (23-5) will now face Henning (26-2) on Wednesday at 7:00pm in a 6A semifinal contest at the Hive.

Hillcrest finishes the season with a final record of 23-5.
