Thompson Scores 37 as Cardinals Beat Otters in 8AAA Semfinal Contest

Chase Thompson scored 31 of his game high 37 points in the first half as the Alexandria boys’ basketball team built a commanding 54-17 halftime advantage over the Fergus Falls Otters.  The Cardinals went on to post an 89-49 victory over the Otters, advancing to the Section 8AAA championship game against St. Cloud Tech.  Tech moved on with a 76-70 win over Detroit Lakes in the other semifinal contest.

 

Alexandria went on a 15-2 run to establish control of the game early in the first half and led by as many as 44 points in the second half.  Braylin Steffensmeier scored 17, Mason Witt has 14 and Grayson Grove contributed a dozen.  Alexandria buried 15 3’s in the game with Thompson hitting 6 of them, all in the first half.  They also took excellent care of the ball, committing only 7 turnovers.

Fergus Falls was led by 17 points from Henry Bethel and 11 from Ryan Hirst.  The Otters turned the ball over 16 times.  Fergus Falls finishes the season with 14 wins and 14 losses.

Alexandria goes to 23-5 with the win.  They will face St. Cloud Tech at 7:00pm Thursday, March 14, in Willmar for the 8AAA title.  The Cardinals are the defending champions.
