The Hillcrest girls’ basketball team built a 32-15 halftime lead in Evansville on Friday night and the Comets went on to record a 60-52 Little Eight Conference victory over the Brandon-Evansville Chargers.  “This was a great team win for us,” commented Head Coach Hannah Clark of Hillcrest.  “Our defense and rebounding set the tone early and that gave us confidence on the offensive end.  The Chargers made a run in the second half, but I’m proud of how the girls were able to keep the lead and grind out the win.”

Ruby Peterson (19 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 6 steals), Ella Knutson (17 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals) and Elsa Retzlaff (14 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists) were the leaders for the Comets.  Kate Olstad added 4 points and 5 rebounds.

“Ruby had a great night on the offensive end of the floor,” noted Coach Clark.  “She shot well from the outside, attacked the hoop, and got all of her teammates involved.  Kate had another solid game, working hard and doing all the little things that the team needs from her.  Ella registered another double-double and I also though she played a great defensive game for us.”

Hillcrest (18-6, 14-4 LEC) has won 8 of their last 9 games.  They have a non-conference road battle with Lake Park-Audubon on Tuesday and will end their regular season schedule at home against Breckenridge on Thursday.

Brandon-Evansville (17-7, 12-6 LEC) has road games at Bertha-Hewitt on Tuesday and at Benson on Thursday to close out their schedule.
