Comet Girls Strike Early in Win Over Battle Lake

The Hillcrest girls’ basketball team took control early in their game at Battle Lake on Thursday.  The Comets built a 35-12 halftime advantage on the way to a 55-37 victory over the Battlers.  “We came out with great defensive intensity that allowed us to jump out to an early lead,” reported Hillcrest Head Coach Hannah Clark.  “I was pleased with how hard the girls played all night long.”

 

Elsa Retzlaff (21 points, 4 rebounds), Ella Knutson (16 points, 10 rebounds), Ruby Peterson (8 points, 4 rebounds, 10 steals, 4 assists), Brooke Swedberg (7 points, 4 rebounds and Kate Olstad (3 points, 8 rebounds) were the statistical leaders for the Comets.

“Elsa Retzlaff led the offensive effort with 21 points, including 5 3’s,” said Coach Clark.  “Ella Knutson had another consistent night for us and Ruby Peterson played outstanding on defense, coming away with 10 steals and many more deflections.”

Sophie Akerman scored 15 points to lead Battle Lake.  Madi Cameron contributed 8 points.

Hillcrest (17-6, 13-4 LEC) plays another conference game on Friday against Brandon-Evansville in Evansville.

Battle Lake (4-20) will host New York Mills on Tuesday.
