Hillcrest Lutheran Academy took control early in their Little Eight Conference home game with Rothsay on Tuesday night, building a 44-18 halftime lead and going on to post an 81-40 victory over the Tigers.  The Comets improved their season record to 18-3 and their Little Eight Conference mark to 14-0.

“This is the first time we've been full strength for a few weeks so I hope that all of the sickness we've been experiencing has now run its course,” stated Coach Ryan Garvin of the Comets. “Good win for our boys tonight against the Tigers. We came out with three really nice possessions to start the game on a 3 from Luke Christensen and back to back looks to Ethan Swedberg from Luke. I really loved the scoring we did off the pass tonight. Gabe Swedenburg had some good looks into Luke and Preston Berge as well. I didn't love our intensity on the defensive glass in the first half, but we went into the locker room up 44-18 by taking advantage of opportunities when they came to us.’

Garvin continued, “In the second half, we jumped out on an 11-0 run to start the half. And although Rothsay did make a couple of runs, our boys were able to put the game out of reach thanks to some good finishing at the rim and 4-4 from three-point range from Noah Brumfield in the second half. He finished with 23 points.”

Christensen also scored 23 points and Preston Berge added a dozen. Leo Nordick contributed 8points, Swedenburg finished with 7 and Ethan Swedberg added 6 points.

“We'll have to play much better defense, take care of the ball even more intently and protect the three-point line with more vigilance than we did tonight when we go up against Underwood on Friday, said Coach Garvin. “They have been playing really well, so we'll have to be ready.  I'm very thankful for such a solid coaching staff who took care of business today in my absence. Coach Donavan Rogness, Coach Andrew Stender and Coach Nash did such a great job these last couple of days. But I'm looking forward to returning to the team tomorrow after a few days of being home sick. It's not very much fun (or effective!) to coach from the couch.”

Hillcrest will host Underwood on Friday and will play Hankinson at NDSCS on Saturday at 7:00pm.

Rothsay has a road game at Parkers Prairie on Friday and will play Wyndmere/Lidgerwod at 1:00pm Saturday at NDSCS.
