The Hillcrest boys’ basketball team continued their winning ways on Tuesday night with a 62-50 win over the Breckenridge Cowboys in a non-conference battle in Fergus Falls.  The Comets led 34-21 at the half. “Difficult to fully quantify tonight,” commented Hillcrest Head Coach Ryan Garvin.  “I thought we got off to a pretty good start in terms of our intensity, but we seemed to let off the gas in terms of our resolve on both ends of the floor.  It’s something we’ll need to continue to address as we progress through February.”

The Comets were led by Noah Brumfield (22 points, 4 rebounds) and Luke Christensen (13 points, 7 rebounds.  Lincoln Nash scored all 8 of his points in the second half, and Ethan Swedberg contributed 8 points and 8 rebounds.

“We gave up a lot of easy looks to Breckenridge and shot really poorly ourselves in the second half,” said Coach Garvin.  “We didn’t have enough defensive possessions where all five of us were in lockdown mode at the same time.  We did enough to win, but couldn’t generate any momentum to pull away from the Cowboys.  Noah Bjorndahl played some great minutes for us on both ends of the floor tonight."

For the Cowboys, Connor Roberts scored a career high 19 points and Beau Beyer had 10.

“We played the Comets even in the second half as both teams scored 29 points,” said Breckenridge Head Coach Jordan Christensen.  “Overall, it is a performance to build off going into DGF on Friday.”

Hillcrest (16-2, 12-0 LEC) travels to Kindred, ND for a game on Thursday and returns to conference play on Friday when they host Parkers Prairie.
