The Hillcrest boys’ basketball team remained unbeaten in Little Eight Conference play with a 62-45 victory over Border West on Friday night in Wheaton.  The Comets held a 33-22 halftime lead, but they created 8 Border West turnovers in the Bucs first 15 possessions of the second half which allowed them to extend their lead.

“Loved our defensive energy tonight,” said Coach Ryan Garvin of Hillcrest.  “We weren’t terribly cohesive on the offensive end, so we’re thankful that our defensive effort did the job tonight.”

Leaders for the Comets were Luke Christensen (15 points, 7 rebounds), Noah Brumfield (14 points, 5 rebounds), Sean Berge (8 points), Lincoln Nash (8 points) and Ethan Swedberg (8 points, 3 rebounds).

“I don’t know how much more we can say about Gabe Swedenburg,” added Coach Garvin.  “To think that he almost didn’t come out for basketball and has been such a difference maker, especially on the defensive end, is such a blessing to this squad.  Lincoln Nash and Sean Berge continue to shine on the defensive end for us and Noah Brumfield also had a big night on the defensive end playing disrupter.  I continue to be so impressed with the effort that these boys expend for each other.”

“Hillcrest played a very well rounded game and we just weren’t able to step up to the challenge to play with a very good team,” commented Head Coach Jordon Roos of Border West. “Too many turnovers and our offense didn’t flow well enough to get into a rhythm in the game.”

Kyle Kremer (15 points, 6 rebounds), Holden Rinke (11 points), Nolan Wilson (5 points, 4 assists, 7 rebounds) and Gunnar Hoffman (8 points, 3 assists, 2 steals) led the Buccaneers.

Hillcrest (15-2, 12-0 LEC) has a home game Tuesday against Breckenridge, travels to Kindred, North Dakota on Thursday, and plays a home conference game against Parkers Prairie on Friday.

Border West (8-10, 5-6 LEC) has a home game Tuesday against Ashby and travels to Battle Lake on Friday.
