The Hillcrest boys’ basketball team defeated Brandon-Evansville 81-59 in a Little Eight Conference contest on Friday night.  “A good effort from our boys tonight,” stated Comet Head Coach Ryan Garvin.  “It wasn’t the most fluid game that we’ve played all year, on either end of the floor, but the boys made plays tonight and that’s ultimately what matters.”

Luke Christensen (32 points, 5 rebounds) got things rolling early as the Comets had a fair amount of good opportunities in transition to help them open up an early lead.  Noah Brumfield added 22 points in limited action.

Micah Fuller (11 points) really hurt us last Saturday when we faced the Chargers at Target Center in our first matchup, but I though Preston Berge (4 points, 7 rebounds), Sean Berge (4 points) and Ethan Swedberg (5 rebounds) did a great job limiting Micah’s touches in this game and making whatever touches he did get, uncomfortable,” noted Garvin.  “We took a day off this week to rest, but it will be good for all of us to get a couple of days off in a row for the first time since New Years.”

The win was the fifth in a row for the Comets (13-2, 10-0 LEC), who remained unbeaten in conference action.  They will play at Ashby on Tuesday and travel to Wheaton on Friday to face Border West.

Brandon-Evansville (10-5, 7-3 LEC) begins a 3-game week with a non-conference contest in Barrett on Monday against the West Central Area Knights.  They will host Browerville on Tuesday and go back into Little Eight play on Friday when they are home to Battle Lake.
