The Hillcrest girls’ basketball team received a double-double (10 points, 11 rebounds, 5 steals) from Ella Knutson and a near double-double from Elsa Retzlaff (14 points, 9 rebounds) on Thursday night as they controlled their game with Ashby from the opening tip and went on to beat the Arrows 48-16.

“Our energy on the defensive end really set the tone for the night,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Hannah Clark. “We didn’t shoot well from the outside, but our defense and transition game allowed us to get high percentage shots in the paint. Aaveah Stender had a great game off the bench for us. She was aggressive on both ends of the floor and I loved how she fought for rebounds and loose balls.”

Stender finished with 8 points and 4 rebounds.  Kate Olstad (4 points, 7 rebounds), Ruby Peterson (2 points, 7 rebounds, 9 steals) and Emme Berge (2 points, 7 rebounds) were all contributors to the Hillcrest victory.

Chloe Finkelson scored 6 points to lead Ashby.

Hillcrest (11-5, 8-3 LEC) goes on the road to face Wheaton/Herman-Norcross on Tuesday night and will host CGB on Thursday.

Ashby has home games with Hancock on Monday and Wheaton/Herman/Norcross on Thursday.
