Hillcrest Lutheran Academy put 77 points on the board while holding Parkers Prairie to just 37 in a Little Eight Conference boys’ basketball contest Tuesday night on the Panthers home floor.  “Another good, tone-setting defensive effort tonight in the first half from our guys,” said Head Coach Ryan Garvin of the Comets.  “We got some defensive stops early and never looked back.  Unofficially, we held them to 12-of-44 from the field for the game and really did a good job of making their shot attempts contested opportunities.”

Garvin gave credit to Gabe Swedenburg, Vincent Nash, Preston Berge and Lincoln Nash for protecting the perimeter, while praising the backline of Leo Nordick, Luke Christensen, Noah Brumfield and Ethan Swedberg for doing a good job of protecting the rim.

“Offensively, I think we made some strides tonight,” noted Garvin.  “I liked our patience against the zone that Parkers started out it.  Once they took it off, we really did a nice job of getting some reversals so we could get a great look inside or an inside-out opportunity.”

Brumfield led the way with 24 points and 5 rebounds and Christensen finished with 19 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and a handful of blocks.  Swedberg contributed 12 points and 6 rebounds, Lincoln Nash had 8 points, Preston Berge chipped in with 4 points and 3 rebounds, and Vincent Nash dished out 4 assists.

“We talked about how important the beginning of the second half was in terms of finishing what we started and, apart from a couple of impatient possessions, we did what we needed to do to play two solid halves of basketball.  I’m proud of these young men for the effort they continue to give to each other.”

No Parkers Prairie stats have been reported.

Hillcrest (7-1, 4-0 LEC) won for a seventh straight time.  They will play at Rothsay on Thursday and at Park Christian in Moorhead on Saturday.

Parkers Prairie (5-5, 2-4 LEC) has a non-conference game at Upsala on Friday night.
