The Hillcrest girls’ basketball team overcame a 34-25 deficit in Rothsay on Tuesday night and defeated the Tigers by a score of 48-47.  “Our defensive effort in the first half was not there and Rothsay really took advantage of it,” commented Hillcrest Head Coach Hannah Clark.  “They did a nice job of finding the open player and knocking down shots.  We talked in the locker room, made some adjustments, and we did a much better job on the defensive end in the second half, holding the Tigers to just 13 points.”

The Comets were led by Ella Knutson (25 points, 16 rebounds), Elsa Retzlaff (15 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals), Kate Olstad (4 points, 8 rebounds), Emme Berge (2 points, 10 rebounds) and Ruby Peterson (2 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 steals).

“Ella registered another double-double, leading us tonight on both ends of the floor,” said Coach Clark.  “I thought Emme Berge had a great defensive game for us and did a nice job going after and securing rebounds.  Elsa Retzlaff hit some big shots for us in the second half.”

Rothsay was led by Savannah Sullivan (19 points, 4 rebounds), McKenzie Tillman (10 points, 11 rebounds) and Bethany Danielson (10 points, 4 rebounds).

“This was a great conference matchup, both teams played hard tonight,” stated Rothsay Head Coach Anita Heier.  “Hillcrest just executed more down the stretch.”

Hillcrest (8-3, 6-1 LEC) will play host to Underwood on Friday night, while Rothsay (7-4, 4-3 LEC) travels to Parkers Prairie on Thursday.
