The Pelican Rapids girls’ basketball team won the Valhalla Division Championship at the Minnesota National Bank Classic on Friday night, recording a 62-48 victory over the New York Mills Eagles. Pelican led 32-23 at the half. Morgan Korf, Ellie Welch and Claudia Gurath were named to the All-Tournament team from Pelican Rapids. New York Mills is represented by Alayna Baune and Ayla Olson.
Korf led all scorers with 25 points in the game. She also had 8 assists, 6 rebounds and 7 steals. Welch and Ari Hovland finished with 14 and 10 points, respectively, while Gurath chipped in with 8. Welch added 8 rebounds, Hovland had 4 assists and Gurath finished with 6 rebounds. Grace Backstrom had 5 boards.
Three Eagles reached double figures, led by Olson with 20. Annika Dunrud added 13 and Baune contributed 10.
The Vikings (9-0) remain unbeaten on the season and will resume play Thursday with a Heart O’ Lakes Conference home game against Barnesville.
New York Mills (3-6) has road games at Pillager on Tuesday and at Henning on Friday.
