The Hillcrest girls’ basketball team bounced back from a tough loss on Thursday night to claim third place at the East Grand Forks Sacred Heart Holiday Tournament with a 68-54 win over Climax-Fisher on Friday afternoon.  “We played much more aggressive than we did last night and we made much more of an effort hustling for loose ball,” noted Comet Head Coach Hannah Clark.  “I was really proud of how they bounced back after last night’s game.”

Leaders for Hillcrest were Ella Knutson (28 points, 12 rebounds), Elsa Retzlaff (14 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals, 3 assists), Aaveah Stender (10 points, 7 rebounds), Ruby Peterson (7 points, 5 rebounds, 8 steals, 5 assists) and Emma Berge (3 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists).  Brooke Swedberg and Chloe Walkup added 4 and 2 points, respectively.

“Ella had a great all-around game, scoring 28 points and containing their start player in the first half, holding her to just 4 points,” added Clark.  “Ruby distributed the ball well and she did a nice job directing the team on both ends of the floor all tournament.”

Peyton Hoffman was the top scorer for Climax-Fisher, finishing with 21 points on the day.

Knutson was named to the All-Tournament team.

Hillcrest (5-3) will travel to Twin Valley on Tuesday for a non-conference matchup with Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal.  They resume Little Eight Conference action on Friday with a home game against the Parkers Prairie Panthers.
