Noah Brumfield scored a team high 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the Hillcrest boys’ basketball team to a 55-43 victory over the Ashby Arrows.  Luke Christensen added 17 points and 9 boards in the win.  Hillcrest held a 30-26 halftime lead.  The first half featured four ties and a pair of lead changes.  The Comets go off to a fast start, scoring the first 9 points in the game.  They also scored the first 5 points of the second half to re-establish a nine point lead.  Their largest lead with 13.  Once Hillcrest broke the 20-20 tie, they didn’t trail again.

"Ashby was scrappy and won most of the loose balls tonight," stated Hillcrest Head Coach Ryan Garvin.  "I don't think we matched their energy in the first half. Credit to Coach Holsten for having his guys ready to go tonight."

Sean Berge added 8 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals, Ethan Swedberg had 7 points, 6 rebounds and a pair of assists, and Gabe Swedenburg contributed 5 points and 3 steals.

"We missed so many make-able lay-ups (12-28 at the rim, 41% overall) and couldn't extend any lead or generate much momentum all night," noted Coach Garvin.  "I liked our second half intensity and patience. I thought we got some better looks and overall played better team defense. It was definitely a disjointed game without a lot of rhythm. We've been averaging about 16 assists a game, so to only have 8 against Ashby is a stark reminder of our lack of execution at the rim and lack of ball movement. So although I would have liked to see some better offensive execution and flow, it's good to know that we can slug it out and win a gross one. Also nice to hold a solid Easton Nelson to 3 points."

Traeton Nelson hit three 3’s, scoring 11 points for the Arrows.  Jake Norby had 9 of his 11 points in the first half.  Kellen Dahlen finished with 8 points.

Hillcrest (4-1) will host Border West on Thursday.

Ashby (3-4) has a home game with Park Christian School on Thursday.
