Verndale defeated Wadena-Deer Creek 57-54 in a high school girls’ basketball matchup on the Pirates home floor.  “Tough battle over in Verndale tonight,” noted WDC Head Coach Jordan Cresap.  “Physical game with resilient competitors on both sides.  Thought we played well defensively for the most part, but offensively we got careless with the ball for a stretch in the second half, which led to some Verndale scores.  Credit them for playing tough tonight.”

Three Wolverines were in double figures, led by Montana Carsten with 15 points, including 4 3’s.  Payton Gravelle and Addyson Gravelle contributed 13 and 12 points, respectively.  Addyson Gravell made 8-of-9 free throws and Payton Gravelle was 5-of-6 on the line.  As a team WDC made 16-of-22 foul shots.

Reagen Ludovissie led Verndale with 20 points and Avery Amerud finished with 11.

Friday night the Wolverines will host New York Mills, while Verndale has a home contest with Sebeka.
