The West Central Area Knights placed five players in double figures in their season opener on the road with a convincing 89-65 win over the Hillcrest Lutheran Academy Comets on Thursday night.

Knights Coach Kraig Hunter said, "Granted there are some sloppy things early in the season, but overall our coaching staff loved the way we played. It was active defense for 36 minutes and very unselfish offense.  We had 18 assisted baskets and seven different players with assists.  They were sharing the ball."

The Knights shot 56% overall and hit thirteen threes. "We know we are capable of that", Hunter added.  "All thirteen guys on our roster are good 3-point shooters and it helps when teammates set them up for open shots."

Hillcrest had an unofficial rebounding edge 33-30. Hunter noted, "We were very happy with our rebounding effort. We were giving up 5-8 inches per player across the board. We were battling as hard as we could. Great effort.  Hillcrest has a nice team. They have a couple of Division two players, lots of size and they are always a good defensive team.  It was fun to watch how hard Ben Bye worked on the boards. He was going against bigger guys, but was just outworking people for rebounds. He's a big reason we played as well as we did.  Our other post player Owen Sanstead also gave us huge minutes off the bench vs the Comets bigs."

Leaders for the Knights were Cam Anderson with 20 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds; Mitch Dewey also had 20 points, Bryce Kjesbo 15 points and 5 rebounds, Sam Hanson scored 12, Nasir Dotts 10, Bye had 7 points, 12 rebounds, and 2 steals, while Marshall Dewey added 5 points.

Other top assist leaders after Anderson's 6 were Dotts and Hanson with 3 each and Dewey and Kjesbo with 2 each. Hanson and Dotts led the team in steals with 4 each.

Hillcrest was led by Luke Christenson with 27 points, Noah Brumfeld added 18, Ethan Swedberg 7, Lincoln Nash 6, Preston Berge 4, and Sean Berge 3.

The Knights will have their home opener on Saturday afternoon hosting another section favorite in the Battle Lake Battlers.
