The Sebeka girls’ basketball team had a strong finish to the season as they beat Verndale and Browerville to improve to the number 5 seed in the Section 5A playoffs.  Overall they were 7-19 on the season.  They will need to replace Maci Lake and Daphney Rathcke, who were lost to graduation, but have a good mix of returning letter winners to lead the Trojans.

Returning starters are juniors Jaylin Lillquist, Annika Pulju and Sammi Stevens, and sophomore Kylah Watson.  Other letter winners are junior Mya Weaver, and freshmen Emma Ness and Bella Connor.

Head Coach Mike Heino, now in his 2th season, is also looking to junior Ellie Ness, sophomore Paetyn Jansson, freshman Sofia Pulju and eighth-grader Saje Jansson to battle for varsity playing time.

“We have a lot of returning varsity experience and will be strong on defense,” said Coach Heino.  “Our weakness will be our ability to score from the outside.”

Randy Nielsen and Megan Heino will serve as assistant coaches.

Coach Heino points to Walker-Hackensack-Akeley and Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa as the favorites in Section 5A, with Menahga the team to beat in the Park Region Conference.
