The Hillcrest volleyball team knocked off the top-seeded team in the North half of Section 6A, Breckenridge, on the Cowgirls home court Friday night as they posted a 3-1 (17-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-20) victory.

Leaders for Hillcrest were Kenzie Miller (15 kills, 2 blocks, 8/8 serving), Anna Brumfield (15/16 serving, 10 kills, 2 blocks), Ella Knutson (17 kills, 22 digs, 3 blocks) and Ruby Peterson (44 set assists, 14/15 serving, 12 digs, 4 kills, 1 block), Elsa Retzlaff (23 digs, 5 kills, 4 set assists, 1 ace, 1 block), Maddie Miller (9 digs) and Chloe Walkup (13 digs, 12/12 serving).

“We had a slow start to the night and lost the first set,” reported Head Coach Debi Foss of the Comets.  “The girls got into a better flow in the second set and we had momentum going into the third set and were able to maintain that momentum through the last two sets to claim the win.  The Cowgirls had some really good swings, but even though they moved their attack around we were able to get some good digs.  There were some long rallies which showed it was an intense game and both teams were playing to win.  I was so excited for our team to get the win and move on to sectionals.  EYES UP!”

Breckenridge was led by Julia Kleisman (10 kills), Katlyn Kaehler (18/18 serving, 4 aces, 9 kills), Erin Blaufuss (9 kills) and Hailee Hanson (19/20 serving, 9 kills).  Parker Yaggie and Kolle Schuler had 14 assists each.

Breckenridge ends their season with a record of 21-9.

With the win the Comets (17-10) advance to the North Sub-Section championship match against Underwood (23-6) on Thursday at 6:00pm at the Kennedy Secondary School in Fergus Falls.
