Hillcrest Lutheran Academy traveled to Moorhead on Wednesday night for a Section 6A volleyball match with Park Christian School. The lady Comets were able to avenge a regular season loss to the Falcons with a 3-0 sweep (26-24, 25-15, 25-21). The Comets took the momentum in the match when after trailing 24-20 in the opening set, they rattled off six straight points behind the serving of Elsa Retzlaff and the hitting of Anna Brumfield for a 26-20 win. The second set was tied 13-13 when Hillcrest scored 12 of the last 14 points for a 25-15 victory.
Leaders for the Comets were Retzlaff (19/20 serving, 1 ace, 7 kills, 20 digs), Brumfield (12 kills, 10 digs, 11/11 serving, 1 ace), Ella Knutson (14/16 serving, 3 aces, 10 kills, 9 digs, 2 block kills), Ruby Peterson (20 set assists, 4 kills, 12 digs, 7/8 serving), Kenzie Miller (8 kills, 2 digs, 1 block kill) and Chloe Walkup (11/11 serving, 1 ace, 9 digs). Maddie Miller added 10 digs for the Comets.
“The gym was electric with fans cheering from both schools,” reported Hillcrest Head Coach Debi Foss. “What a fun opportunity to play in front of such an enthusiastic crowd. We started a little slow but made a few adjustments and came back with a win in the first set. We did a lot of good things, made adjustments, and got the job done. Congrats to the Falcons on their season!”
