Rockets Advance with 44-14 Quarterfinal Round Victory Over Comets

Noah Link had 3 interceptions and scored a touchdown on a 28 yard reception from Evan Lundgren to help lead the Underwood Rockets to a 44-14 win over Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in the Section 4 9-Player quarterfinals on Tuesday night in Underwood.  The Rockets scored the first 5 touchdowns to open up a 34-0 halftime lead and notched the first TD of the second half for a 40-0 advantage.

Owen Harig’s 21 yard run gave Underwood a 6-0 lead early in the game.  Link then caught his TD pass from Lundgren and Soren Floden tacked on the extra point for a 13-0 lead.  Kaleb Hammes was on the receiving end of a 15 yard TD pass from Lundgren and Floden added the PAT for a 20-0 lead.

A pair of second quarter touchdown runs (30, 3) by Collin Lukken and two more Floden extra-point kicks gave the Rockets their 34-0 halftime lead.

Levi Evavold hauled in a 26 yard touchdown pass from Lundgren in the third quarter for a 40-0 lead.  Hillcrest then scored on a 4 yard run by Xander Johnson and Leo Nordick ran the ball in for the two-point conversion, putting the score at 40-8.

Ethan Swedberg hooked up with Gabe Swedenburg on a 10 yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter for the final points of the game.

Underwood was led by Lukken (13 carries, 106 yards) and Blayre Lundgren (10 carries, 77 yards) on the ground.  Evan Lundgren completed 7-of-12 passes for 142 yards and 3 TD’s.  Hammes was the top receiver with 3 catches for 46 yards.  The Rockets had 397 yards of total offense and 19 first downs, while playing turnover-free football.  Defensive leaders were Evavold with 6 solo tackles and 3 assisted tackles, Michael Lanoue (3 solo tackles, ,7 assisted tackles, 1 sack).

Hillcrest finished with 276 total yards (149 passing, 127 rushing).  They were led by Johnson (16 carries, 82 yards), Swedenburg (6 catches 58 yards), Nordick (3 catches, 49 yards) and Swedberg (12 completions, 28 attempts, 149 yards, TD). 

Underwood will travel to Wheaton to face Border West in a semifinal contest at 2:00pm Saturday.  The other semifinal will take place in Battle Lake as top-seeded Ottertail Central hosts Hancock.  The Owls advanced with a 26-14 win over Rothsay on Tuesday night.
