Hillcrest and Underwood squared off for the second time in a week on Tuesday night on the Comets home floor.  The home team recorded a 3-1 (25-16, 22-25, 25-20, 25-22) victory over the visiting Rockets.  “T-E-A-M … Together Everyone Achieves More … it’s an old acronym, but it 100% describes tonight’s win,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Debi Foss.  “It was a very competitive match.  Tonight, everything we’ve been working on came together.  I am so very, very proud of our team.  Embracing their individual talents, but using them to benefit our team play as a whole.”

Hillcrest leaders were Anna Brumfield (16/16 serving, 8 serving points, 1 ace, 16 kills, 26 digs), Ruby Peterson (15/16 serving, 8 serving points, 2 aces, 47 set assists, 11 kills, 27 digs), Ella Knutson (3 aces, 13 serving points, 15 kills, 15 digs, 1 block kill), Elsa Retzlaff (16/17 serving, 1 ace, 7 serving points, 10 kills, 22 digs, 4 set assists), Kenzie Miller (11/11 serving, 15 kills, 5 digs, 2 set assists, 1 block kill), Kaia Miller (4 set assists), Maddie Miller (8 digs) and Chloe Walkup (1 ace, 8 serving points, 15 digs).

“It was all Hillcrest last night,” stated Underwood Head Coach Breck Grove.  “They played hard from start to finish and let nothing hit the floor.  Their defense wore down our offense and we just never really got things going the way we would have liked to.  Now, we need to learn from our match, adjust, and get back to work on what we need to do to improve.”

The Rockets were perfect (84/84) from the serving line, led by Brooklyn Christianson (20/20), Liz Lukken (15/15), Ezrah Baker (15/15, 1 ace), Kallyn Grove (14/14) and Mily Albjerg (12/12).  Grove distributed 29 set assists and attack leaders were Lukken and Grove with 16 and 13 kills, respectively.  Christianson added 7 kills, Baker had 6 and Albjerg finished with 5.  Double digit digs were provided by Katie Hess (17), Lukken (15), Sia Olson (14), Christianson (13), Grove (12) and Baker (10).

“I also want to say congratulations to our C Squad and JV teams, who concluded their season tonight with victories,” said Coach Foss.  “I believe one of the JV sets finished at 28-26.  All of the sets were competitive.  Their 10-week season has flown by quickly, but it is so exciting to see improvement in both of these teams.  Thank you Coach Patti and Coach Julie for your efforts, kindness, patience, time, talents, and lots of words in working with these young ladies, teaching them about life on and off the court.  EYES UP!”

The Comets varsity will compete in the Blocktoberfest Volleyball Tournament hosted by the Fergus Falls Otters on Thursday.
