The Hillcrest volleyball team recorded a 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-17) Little Eight Conference victory over Battle Lake on Thursday night in Fergus Falls, however, the night was about much more that volleyball.

“This evening we celebrated the Battle Lake Seniors and our one Senior volleyball player, Bayley Newby.  Tonight’s game also went beyond the court as we had the opportunity to support the Bradyn Roisum family as well as the Battle Lake Community,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Debi Foss. “I want to personally thank tonight's game sponsor, OTXteriors Inc., for not only supporting the Comets but for also going above and beyond to support the Roisum family.  Watching the 3-point shooting contest, “Buckets for Bradyn”, between two Comets and two Battlers was a lot of fun to watch between the 2nd and 3rd set.”

Leading the Comets on the court were Ella Knutson (1 ace, 9 kills, 10 digs), Anna Brumfield (1 ace, 8 kills, 5 digs), Kenzie Miller (8/8 serving, 1 ace, 7 kills, 3 digs), Ruby Peterson (2 aces, 24 set assists, 5 kills, 10 digs), Elsa Retzlaff (3 aces, 3 kills, 9 digs), Chloe Walkup (10/10 serving, 2 aces, 8 digs), Maddie Miller (4 digs) and Kaia Miller (2 kills).

“This week we’ve had a lot of “extra” things going on and I’m proud of how the girls are able to handle the chaos in the gym around them,” added Coach Foss. “Even though we had a slow start tonight, we were able to keep our focus and finish the match strong. Everyone had opportunities and found some success. The Battlers have some good talent on the rise and I’m gonna keep my eyes on them!  Congrats to Heather Akerman on doing such a fine job at stepping into the varsity role so unexpectedly, allowing Coach Jenny Roisum to do what she needs to do. You have set a good example, worked hard, and have taught your players well.”

This weekend the Hillcrest JV Team will take part in a conference tournament in Parkers Prairie.  Their final regular season game will be on Tuesday against the Underwood Rockets. The Comet Junior High teams ended their season Thursday night. “I think they had a lot of fun and learned a lot this season,” concluded Foss. “Thank you Coach Cathy and Coach Natalie for putting in the time and effort to make it a great season for them. It is so appreciated!”
