After a scoreless game through regulation, the two teams entered overtime, two ten-minute halves with golden goal ruling.
With 1 minute and 20 seconds left in the second half of overtime, Senior Soren Floden controlled the ball at central midfield and placed a perfect ball up the middle to Zane Holmquist. Zane gathered in the ball and placed a blast to right corner, ending the game with a golden goal overtime win.
The Comets launched 11 shots on the Pirate net before finding the back of it. The Pirates had six shots on net, with Freshman Franki Renner stopping all and gaining his fifth shutout of the season.
“The Comets who struggled through the game on their offensive attacks did see EXCELLENT defensive efforts from Senior Captain, Noah Bjorndahl, Senior Max Anderson, Caleb Holm, Kian Stender, and TJ Idudu.”
The Comets now play Pelican Rapids in semifinal action on Saturday. The game is scheduled for a 2:00pm start on the Otter Stadium Field at Kennedy Secondary School in Fergus Falls.
