The Underwood Rockets defeated the Hillcrest Comets in a Little Eight Conference volleyball match in Fergus Falls on Tuesday night, winning in 4 sets by scores of 25-20, 25-23, 21-25, 25-22).

It was a fun, competitive match,” stated Head Coach Breck Grove of the Rockets. “Hillcrest is scrappy on defense and just never backs down.  I was proud of our girls for playing aggressively from the start and not getting rattled when the Comets rallied or had big hits.”

Underwood was led by Liz Lukken (22/22 serving, 1 ace, 18 kills, 20 digs), Ezrah Baker (14/15 serving, 11 kills, 11 digs), Kallyn Grove (16/16 serving, 2 aces, 9 kills, 4 block assists, 38 set assists, 16 digs), Brooklyn Christianson (10/10 serving, 1 ace, 8 kills, 10 digs), Mily Albjerg (20/22 serving, 2 aces, 7 kills, 12 digs, 2 block assists), Katie Hess (9/10 serving) and Sia Olson (15 digs).  Emma Dirkman added 3 kills and 3 block assists.

Leaders for Hillcrest were Ruby Peterson (12/12 serving, 1 ace, 36 set assists, 6 kills, 21 digs), Anna Brumfield (22/22 serving, 3 aces, 12 kills, 20 digs), Ella Knutson (11 kills, 14 digs), Kaia Miller (4 kills, 1 set assist, 2 digs), Kenzie Miller (9 kills, 5 digs), Elsa Retzlaff (3 aces, 9 kills, 6 digs, 2 set assists), Maddie Miller (4 digs) and Chloe Walkup (13/13 serving, 1 ace, 12 digs).

“Every set was competitive tonight against the Rockets,” reported Hillcrest Head Coach Debi Foss. “They had moments of greatness. We had moments of greatness. We had errors. They had errors. It took a little bit to get into our rhythm and we played tentative at times. The Rockets do a good job of moving their attacks around and dumping the ball to open spots. We look forward to a rematch next week. Thank you to Security Insurance & Investments for sponsoring tonight's game tonight! I think all of the fans were diving for a "Block Party" t-shirts being sling-shotted into the stands as well as the candy toss.”

On Thursday, the Comets will celebrate Senior Night in their last conference match of the season against the Battle Lake Battlers at home.
