Comet Boys Close Out Regular Season with 6-0 Win Over Melrose

The Hillcrest Lutheran Academy Boys Soccer Team defeated the Melrose Dutchmen on Saturday at Danielson Field in Fergus Falls, by the score of 6-0, ending their regular season with a record of 9-6-1.

“Conditions on our muddy field continued to be tough today, but the Comets came out strong for two halves and finished strong in their last regular-season game," said Head Coach Rod Jensen.  "We had tremendous defensive support from Senior Captain, Noah Bjorndahl. Kian Stender, Max Anderson, Caleb Holm, EJ Cho, and Jonathan Haugstvedt.”

Ten minutes into the first half, Senior Captain, Matthew Knutson attacked the left sideline and placed the ball up to Senior Captain Abram Ness.  Ness placed a centering pass to Zane Holmquist who shot on goal.  The shot was rebounded and Sophomore, Lincoln Nash was there for the rebound goal.  At 25 minutes, Zane Holmquist scored off an assist from Abram Ness.  At 30 minutes, Senior Soren Floden scored his first Varsity goal off an Abram Ness corner kick., ending the half with the Comets up by three.

Two minutes into the second half, sophomore defender, Kian Stender placed a perfect ball from the backfield to Zane Holmquist.  Zane scored with a high arching goal over the Dutchmen goaltender.  Four minutes later, Abram Ness took a shot inside the 18 which was called for a handball.  Ness scored on the resultant penalty kick to the lower left corner of the net.  AT 65 minutes, Zane Holmquist scored his third goal of the contest off an assist from Senior Captain, Matthew Knutson, ending all scoring for the game with the Comets up 6-0.

The Comets had 15 shots on goal.  Freshman Franki Renner was perfect, stopping 11 shots and recording his fourth shutout of the season.

The Comets now wait for regular season results and final section season playoff schedules announced Monday.
