Otters Lose to Flyers on Late TD

Fergus Falls fell behind Little Falls 14-0 at halftime on Friday night, rallied to tie the game at 14-14, but lost the game 21-14 when the Flyers scored with just 20 seconds remaining.  The loss drops the Otters to 2-4 on the season, while Little Falls goes to 3-3.

An Otter fumble at their 3 yard line led to a 6 yard TD run by Hank LeClair and successful PAT kick for a 7-0 lead for the visitors.

In the second quarter, Joey Weilinski broke free for a 40 yard touchdown run and following the extra point kick the Flyers had a 14-0 lead that stood up until halftime.

Fergus Falls got on the board with 2:30 left in the third quarter.  Isaiah Holmes returned a Flyer punt to the Little Falls 10 yard line and two plays later Levi King reached the end zone on a 9 yard run.  Shane Zierden added the extra point kick as the Otters cut the Flyers lead in half to 14-7.

The Otters tied the game when Griffin Babolian capped a 66 yard scoring drive with a 3 yard TD run with 6:19 left in the fourth quarter.  Zierden’s PAT kick made it 14-14.  The Otters forced a Little Falls punt and drove to the 26 yard line before they lost the ball on a fumble.  Little Falls went 74 yards and won the game on a 10 yard pass from Gavin Anderson to Issac Olson with just 20 seconds on the clock.  The extra point kick made the final score, 21-14.

Little Falls featured a balanced offensive attack, running for 142 yards and passing for 176.  Weilinski led the rushing attack with 82yards on 10 carries.  Anderson completed 12-of-19 passes for 176 and Olson caught 6 balls for 71 yards.

Babolian led the Otters with 60 yards on 18 attempts.  Henry Bethel was 3-for-10 throwing the ball for 47 yards.  Fergus Falls had 132 rushing yards and 62 passing yards for 194 total yards.

The Otters play at Thief River Falls on Friday night.
